That argument is about ownership. A mandate is not personal property. It is held in trust, and it belongs to the platform that produced it, the party structure and the electorate who together turned a candidacy into an office. Everything that follows in Nigerian politics when an officeholder forgets this, the defections, the parallel structures, the mandates spent as though they were earnings, follows from getting that one relationship wrong.
